A station post insulator is mostly used on substations.

It is an insulator of generally columnarshape and it consists of one post insulator unit or an assembly of such units and is intended  to give rigid support to a live part which is insulated from the earth or from another live part.

Outdoor post insulators intend to be subjected in service to the weather and indoor post insulators intend to be installed indoors where they are not subject to excessive condensation.
