In 2004, China Sports & Tongfang Co.,Ltd and Tsinghua University jointly launch a project on the research of a BIA type body composition analyzer. The project is sponsored by Beijing Scientific and Technology Committee, a government promoting entity. The leader scientist of the research team is Professor Zheng Xiuyuan from Qinghua University, who is the top scientist in human engineering in China. Professor.Zheng developed a theory of MRI Image Analysis. In this way, the researcher calculating every different area of the MRI scanning image of internal section of whole body, using special software. The result is the most accurate “Golden Standard” to identify the body composition. After 3 yeas hard work, involving efforts of many other universities and hospitals, the team developed a set of regressive formula based on MRI Graphic Analysis. Our engineers produced the first Chinese BIA-type body composition analyzer in 2006.
World’s No.1 MRI imaging based analyzer
There are multiple technologies available to measure body composition. Currently, the underwater weighing method is the gold standard. Air-displacement plethysmography and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) are the two relatively new reference methods. The use of these methods is limited due to the inaccessibility and the high cost of equipment. Therefore, simple methods such as bioelectrical impedance analysis (BIA) and skinfold-thickness measurements are still the norm in field studies and for public use. The BIA method has been extensively used in clinics, in sports medicine, and in weight reduction programs. Multiple studies have compared predictions of PBF by BIA with measurements made by reference methods, but the results are contradictory. The key point of the accuracy of the BIA model is its correlation with its gold standard.
Computed Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) is the newest methods in determination of body composition. Supported by special designed software, the computer can identify each different tissues in the body. And it’s regarded as the most accurate measurement besides underwater weighing. DXA is limited for its radiation to person so no large number samples acquired. MRI scanning does no harm to body, so you can do as many samples as you can to get the most accurate result.
We use whole-body MRI scan to get continuous images of every cross section (interval 1 cm) of human body. Our research team scanned more than 100 persons. By using specific software, we identify each composition and calculate its area. Then we calculate the volume of each composition and transformed to amount with our special formula.
With more than 30,000 MRI images, we set up the regressive formula of body composition in BIA mode. The accuracy is highly practical.
DDS----real multi-frequency
Different frequency has different effects on different body composition. Frequency lower than 50KHz cannot tell the extracelluar fluid (and other composition based on that). The more frequency you use, the more accurate results you get.
Our unique DDS technology supplies the most accurate frequency for testing. DDS (Direct Digital Synthesizer) is the most advanced system to output high definition sine wave frequency. Contrast to other methods, DDS is more accurate and easy to adjust the frequency. You can change the output frequency even without adjustment of your hardware circuit.
Windows CE inside
We use embedded Microsoft Windows CE® as the operating system (OS) of our machine. Microsoft Windows is the most common OS in computer world, many applications can run on it. So our analyzer is user-friendly and can be featured with new functions easily.
CF card storage
The memory part of the machine is a CF card, like what you find in a digital camera! The machine can store 10,000 records in the card, or if you like, store 100,000 records in it with a bigger card. And it’s very easy to transmit the data to your computer by using a USB line and Microsoft ActiveSync software. It’s an EXCEL file. Copy it like you copy a file in your PC.
