Application: various industries involving large amount of water require frequent water testing, and the controlling of water quality to meet the different standards. In the case of water deterioration, water tests must be conducted immediately, so measures can be taken accordingly, to prevent serious consequences.
2. Feature
Quick and easy
Operating in accordance with the instructions, users can complete the manganese test independently without specialized training. 10 minutes is enough to complete the analysis of one water sample.
Accurate and reliable
This method equals to potassium periodate oxidation method (GB11906-1989), in the presence of potassium pyrophosphate - sodium acetate, low valence manganese will be oxidized to permanganate salt instantly by potassium periodate at room temperature, and the color is stable for a long time.
The range of the determination: 0.1~10mg/L. If the concentration is out of the range, please repeat the operation after appropriate dilution of the water sample.
3. Operation
1. Fill the tube with 15mL testing liquid, add one pack of the reagent I, sway till dissolved, add one pack of reagent II, wait for 10 minutes.
2. Put the tube on the colorimetric chart, and look from up to bottom, compare the color of the liquid and colors on the chart, then come out a result (mg/L).
Note:
1) PH of the testing liquid must be controlled between 5-10.
2) Oxidant or reductant will affect the result, heat with nitric acid or sulphuric acid will eliminate the influence.
4. Background of development
Sources of manganese
There are many valence states of manganese compounds, mainly divalent, trivalent, tetravalent, hexavalent and heptavalent manganese. Manganese is one of the essential trace elements of organisms. Manganese exists in groundwater in form of soluble divalent manganese because the lack of oxygen. While in surface water, manganese is in forms of soluble trivalent complexes and tetravalent manganese suspensions. The content of manganese in the environment water samples is between few μg/L to several hundreds μg/L and rarely more than mg/L. The main pollution sources of manganese are waste waters discharged from black metal mine, metallurgy and chemical industries.
The significance of manganese test
Manganese salt is of low toxicity, but excessive levels of manganese in water makes the ugly manganese stains are left to clothing, textiles and papers. Therefore, in general the manganese content of industrial water is not allowed to be more than 0.1mg/L.
