  1. Technical Parameters

  Porcelain crucible: dwarf-type 30ml

  Inside iron crucible: 75±5ml, with cover

  Outside iron crucible: 190±10ml, with cover

  Tripod: stainless steel, high 250±10mm, ring diameter Φ130±5mm

  Insulator: stainless steel, 90±2mm in diameter at the top, 82±2mm in diameter at the bottom

  Hood: stainless steel, 50 to 53 mm in height of the lower perpendicular side. The cone has 25±2mm in height. The top of the upper tube Φ3mm welded wire bent lip of the fire bridge, high 50±3mm, as the indicator of the maximum height of the flame.

BF-10 conforms to the standards of GB/T 268, ASTM D189, ISO 6615.

  3. Scope

    This instrument is for the determination of the amount of carbon residue left after evaporation and pyrolysis of an oil, and is intended to provide some indication of relative coke-forming propensities.

    The test method is generally applicable to relatively nonvolatile petroleum products which partially decompose on distillation at atmospheric pressure.

  4. Summary of Test Method

    A weighed quantity of sample is placed in a crucible and subjected to destructive distillation. The residue undergoes cracking and coking reactions during a fixed period of severe heating. At the end of the specified heating period, the test crucible containing the carbonaceous residue is cooled in a desiccator and weighed. The residue remaining is calculated as a percentage of the original sample, and reported as Conradson carbon residue.
