The chemical name for PPTA(PARA ARAMID FIBER) is Poly- P- Phenylene Terephthamide Fiber, commonly known as aramid 1414. It consists of terephthaloyl chloride(TCL) and p- phenylenediamine(PPD) after solution polymerization into a rigid rod-like macromolecules(PPTA), and then by liquid crystal spinning. Rigid rod-like macromolecules arrange regularly along the fiber axis in the spinning process, which make the fibers has structure characteristics of highly oriented, highly crystallization; has properties characteristics of high strength, high modulus, high temperature resistance and has charming golden appearance. It is also called "synthetic wire".
The most prominent properties of the PPTA are its high strength, high modulus and heat resistance. For PPTA, ratio of weight/strength is 6 times of steel wire, 3 times of glass fiber and twice of high-strengh nylon. Ratio of weight/modulus is 3 times of steel wire, twice of glass fiber and 10 times of high strength nylon. PPTA can keeps 95% strength after working for 500 hours at 160°C and keeps 75% strength after working for 100 hours at 200°C. PPTA is often used as a special structural material with properties of light weight, heat-resistant.
